The Well Drilling Beginning

Driving to work early one morning in Central Pennsylvania, NEGLEY’S founder Neil Negley’s eyes caught the glimpse of a “for sale” sign off to the side of the road.  Near that sign mountained a well drilling rig that seemed to glow from the early morning sunrise. “Well drilling… That’d be alright,” thought Neil as he continued on to his construction job. 

Miles and minutes later Negley made it to his job site and met up with his boss.  Kicking at the ground and mumbling in between sips of coffee his boss confided to Neil that he was in need of a new well.  “I can do that,” announced Negley, and on the way home he bought that rig.  Neil Negley bought that rig and, what would eventually become NEGLEY’S WATER, drilled that boss’s well.

Now Neil Negley had previously worked with one of the then best well drilling companies in Central PA before this construction job.  He understood what the well drilling industry required and partnered with his wife Jolynn to create a local well drilling service. Starting in 1979, located in Newburg, PA, NEGLEY’S set out to create a well drilling business that would merge tradition with innovation.  Early on it was understood that the NEGLEY’S process was going to be one that was different and stood out from other well drilling companies.

That understanding was almost immediately focused on providing not only a sustainable water source with a well, but plenty of pressure with  the addition of a water pump. The residential well drilling business, coupled with the ability to provide commercial well services, continued to grow with hard work and integrity.  The Negleys recognized an opportunity to not only foster a water source for homeowners, but be able to provide them with clean water treatment from their tap.  In 2003 NEGLEY’S WATER launched their water treatment division.

As NEGLEY’S  services grew, so did their regional reach.  In 2010 NEGLEY’S WATER acquired a local water treatment business in Greencastle, PA.  NEGLEY’S Greencastle provided the opportunity to better serve South Central Pennsylvania and Western Maryland as a local well drilling contractor. NEGLEY’S  Greencastle location created a better path to Frederick and Washington Counties in Maryland as they became one of the best local well drilling companies. 

Well Drilling in Martinsburg, WV 

In 2019 their efforts were further strengthened by the opening of an office in Berkeley County, West Virginia.  NEGLEY’S Martinsburg, located at 446 Eagle School Road, Martinsburg, WV, created a bridge from Berkeley County to Jefferson, Morgan, and Hampshire Counties in West Virginia and Frederick County, Virginia. Berkeley County’s population averaged an increase of 1.7% for eleven years, and as new homes were built, so increased the need for companies that drilled wells.

In 2020 NEGLEY’S acquired another local water treatment business in Maugansville, MD.   NEGLEY’S was able to continue to build on its existing presence in Maryland.  NEGLEY’S now had a physical address within  Washington County Maryland at 18010 Maugans Avenue, Maugansville, MD.  Communities that circled Boonsboro, Smithsburg, Hagerstown, Clear Spring, and Williamsport now had a walk-in business for all of their local well drilling needs.

Also, in 2020 NEGLEY’S WATER launched a new location in Mechanicsburg, PA at 7 Keener Drive Suite B in Mechanicsburg, PA.  NEGLEY’S was able to offer better well installation to Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, and Adams County.

NEGLEY’S continued to refine the customer experience by offering front end services that many other well installation companies don’t or won’t. NEGLEY’S also offers a Commercial and Industrial Division for all well services, pump needs, and water treatment offerings that are specific to the industry and need.
